Macmahon Holdings has booked a further $144 million in civil works contracts, including provisions to deliver further upgrades to Marble Bar Road in the East Pilbara.
The Marble Bar Road upgrades form a bulk of the works, with Macmahon’s wholly-owned subsidiary Decmil receiving notice from HanRoy, a Hancock Prospecting subsidiary, to complete 46km of upgrades as part of the $104 million contract.
Works are expected to commence this month and take around eight months to complete to Main Roads WA standards.
Macmahon managing director and chief executive Michael Finnegan said the contract built on a strong relationship with HanRoy.
“We are very pleased to have been awarded additional works at the Marble Bar Road Upgrade project where we have been working closely with the HanRoy team for the past eight months on section 3, the middle 23km, which will be completed this year,” he said.
Decmil was awarded that contract at the end of 2024. It added $61 million to its secured order book at the time.
The 433km Marble Bar road is a critical access road for several mining operations and local communities between Newman, Nullagine, Marble bar and several remote communities.
It is particularly crucial for Hancock Prospecting’s McPhee Creek iron ore mine, hence the co-operation between the miner and the state government on upgrades to the public highway.
Decmil has also been awarded a $28 million contract from Hamersley Iron, part of the Rio Tinto Group, to deliver stage 2A of the Jerriwah Village expansion project at the Brockman 2 mine in the West Pilbara.
That contract will involve installation of accommodation modules, laundry facilities, a gymnasium, multi-sports courts and other outdoor amenities.
Mr Finnegan said the contracts provided a solid foundation for the financial year ahead.
“We have an extensive track record in delivering accommodation village design and construction projects and look forward to delivering another at Jerriwah for Rio Tinto,” he said.
“I would like to thank our team for their dedication and support in building a trusted relationship with Rio Tinto and we look forward to strengthening this is in the years ahead.”
Rounding out the contracts, Decmil has also been awarded a $12 million contract with Glencore to deliver earthworks and civil works at the Rolleston Open Cut mine in Queensland. It expects those works to be completed by early 2026.
