Hope Downs Iron Ore Project

The Hancock Group of Companies are holders of numerous iron ore leases in the Pilbara. These leases are the only significant iron ore resources held by any company other than the three major Pilbara iron producers. The leases cover an area of 500 square km predominantly in the Central Pilbara region and contain mineable reserves of Brockman and Marra Mamba ore of over 850 million tonnes (geological resources of 1200 Mt).

Location Map

Hancock Prospecting has been actively exploring five major deposits at Hope Downs 1, 2 and 3 which lie some 75 kilometres to the west and north west of the town of Newman, in the central Pilbara.

Hope Downs 1

The planned development at Hope Downs 1 forms the core of the 'Hope Downs Iron Ore Project'. It contains the two most advanced ore bodies known as Hope North and Hope South. These reserves together with further reserves in the surrounding area are capable of supporting a minimum mining operation of 25 million tonnes per year for over 30 years. Assays from more than 100,000 metres of drilling have been used to identify mineable ore reserves. At Hope Downs 1, 450 million tonnes of mineable ore have been identified, with the potential for further reserves in the immediate surrounding area.
